Today, on el bloggo, is a super amazing, fantastic, adorable, wonderful, I'm-so-in-love-with-this-girl-if-you-can't-tell author.

She might be my non-biological twin. Possibly my other half. Definitely my soul sister.

This girl is it.

And she is going to give you some of the best advice that any writer ever could.

I really mean that.

If you are an aspiring writer or new author, you need to pay attention. This is something that gets to us all! Not one of us is immune to what can turn into a major pitfall and seriously damage your career.

So read this. Absorb it. Marinate in it. And then adapt it as your mantra.

I hope you all enjoy Rebecca's post!!! And fall in love with her at least half as much as I already am!!!

Here she is, Rebecca Ethington

Hey everyone!
For those of you who don’t know, me I am Rachel Higginson’s super awesome stalker… I mean friend… yes… friend.

I am so happy to be here to talk about my writing and some of the little hints and tricks I have picked up through my writing journey. I love to share and help, so I can’t thank enough for inviting me. I love Rachel and her works so much, in fact Reckless Magic was one of the first books I read after I got my kindle.
Fun fact for your Friday morning… Or Wednesday.

Anyway.
For those of you who don’t know who I am, my name is Rebecca Ethington and I am the Author of The Imdalind Series and a few other things….

Scary things…

And interactive things that involve cute guys with a secret…

That may be too much self promotion…

Back on track!
Rachel has invited me here to expound upon you all some of my world famous writing tips!
Now, I know what you are thinking – what can this girl with all these weird guys tell me about writing. How can she have writing tips?
Well, I will tell you how… I make lots and lots of mistakes…

And while I am a big proponent for learning from your own mistakes and not others – there is one thing I have learned that I share far and wide. One thing that I think everyone should know, embrace and benefit from.

WRITE WHATEVER THE BOOGER YOU WANT! (Edited for Content Violation)

I know, George, I know. It’s not necessarily new information. I am sure you have heard it before. But allow me to explain why this is my number one rule. The rule that I try to follow no matter what (even though sometimes I fail).

You see, when I wrote my first book in the summer of 2012 – I wrote it as a gift. A gift for my sweet little old grandfather. He was turning 92 and had owned a bookstore for most of his life. It seemed like the perfect gift. I poured my heart into that book, and the next one, and the next one.

And then time came to write the fourth one. And the beautiful story I had been telling came to a halt. I didn’t want to write it. My soul rebelled against it; the story was trapped inside of me unwilling to budge. But my fans were waiting, I had set a date. So I plowed ahead. I forced that story out of me and came out on the other end with what my beta’s called useless dribble.

Yep.

Useless dribble.

So I wrote something else, Through Glass, even though my readers were not very happy with me for switching series. It’s what I wanted to write. And the story flowed. And the characters swelled and in only two weeks I had a full book.

I wrote what I wanted and everything was right in the world.

I am sure you have all heard of Muses, and have seen authors post pictures of hot guys and say ‘this is my muse’ but I don’t think that that is how it works. I think a muse is something inside of you, a feeling, a pull, maybe even a character that is speaking to you a bit more frequently than the others.
At least that’s how it is for me.

People get caught up in this idea of writing what’s popular, or writing ‘the next best thing’ or writing the next ‘fault in our stars’ but what if you just wrote.
What if you just followed that muse and created something beautiful?

I know I upset my readers quite a bit because I bounce around. I wrote what I wanted instead of what others wanted of me, and at first it hurt how vocal they were against me. But I can’t really blame them – because I am following a voice they can’t hear, a story they haven’t yet read.
But they will.

So, advice… (I bet you thought I got off track)

Write whatever you want dagnabit! Don’t feel obligated to write something specific, just write from the heart, write the story that’s been whispering to you for the past years.

Don’t question.

Just do it.

Rachel
