Kindle Fire HD Giveaway!!!

So first of all I just want to say that my heart is breaking for Boston.

I am addicted to the news today. I just can't stop watching. And although I wanted to post about this yesterday, my first reaction to these situations is always anger. Always. And then some shock. So finally I feel like I can write something worth reading.

I hate. Hate. That this is the world we live in today. That a terrorist attack (And this is a terrorist attack because it was both an attack on innocents and the attackers had the sole purpose to bring terror) has ceased to be a surprise, or be unexpected.

As heart-wrenching, heartbreaking and tragic as this is.... there is too much of this to surprise us. Honestly, it makes me so sick. These people that are suffering or mourning or both, my broken heart goes out to them.

And at the same time I am awed by the American people, by our common unity, our united spirit. Those people that ran toward the destruction to help, that stood together against the chaos and evil. Those are my brothers. My fellow Americans. And that is what makes me proud of our country, of our people.

Because even if this was an organized attack by other Americans, they are the smallest minority, the thinnest faction of hatred. The majority is so much stronger, so much better, so much more than that evil. Humanity as a whole is not like them.

Last night a friend posted a video on Facebook of a professional sporting event he and his friends were at. It was just of the national anthem, and had nothing to do with the actual game being played. But the sports complex was full and as the singer belted out the words of our national anthem proudly the entire venue screamed and shouted in approval. The sound was deafening, almost covering the voice of the singer completely. And as his voice swelled on "And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there" so did the shouts of approval. It was honestly beautiful. And a true testament of the spirit of our country.

My prayers and thoughts are with Boston and all of the victims. And for justice.

Ok, switching gears completely!!

So. I love you guys. Like adore you. You know that, right???

Well, if you don't, you should!!!

But even though I'm a writer, and words are everything to me, I know that they're not everything to everybody else... So why don't I SHOW you my love!!

Yes??

Ok.

So here is a giveaway of my appreciation to you!

First place: Kindle Fire HD!!!!!!

What? I know!

Second place: A signed bundle of The Star-Crossed Series (Books 1-4)

Third place: A signed copy of Reckless Magic

Ah! So exciting right!!!! I hope so! I cannot wait to give all of this away! :)

The Giveaway is running until May 10th. So plenty of time to enter, but don't forget, because obviously, you'll want to get your name in!!!!

You can enter using the Rafflecopter widget thingy (Technical term, right???) to the right of this blog. And just go ahead and fill out the form it gives you.

In order to be properly entered you have to follow my blog and leave a comment. If you already follow the blog, you can follow my Twitter account or Facebook page instead! Trust me I leave all kinds of nuggets of wisdom on those... Ok, even I couldn't stop from rolling my eyes.

And then the comment. I want to know what your first eBook download was ever on your first eBook ever!

Mine was the first version of the Kindle, with the soft screen. I feel instantly in love. And I had always been the one that's like, I need a page to turn, I need the smell of the book, I want to bookmark my pages!

But holding the eReader in my hands for the first time... well, not to tear up or anything, but it was life changing! :)

And the first book I downloaded was Amanda Hocking's My Blood Approves. Which was Ok.

But I fell in LOVE with her Trylle Trilogy. Switched was the second book I downloaded. And that was the series that convinced me to go into self-publishing. I had spent the better part of two years trying to go the traditional route with obviously no success.

My husband, Zach, had been working to convince me to go into self-publishing for a while.

And after reading the Trylle, I decided why not!

I had really high hopes too. I gave myself these solid goals, like if I sold ten books, then it would be worth it. And I was just planning on ignoring the fact the buyers were family members....

Realistic goals. That's what I'm about. Realistic goals. :)

Anyway, tell me what book was your first purchase/download and you can be entered into the Giveaway!!!!

Also feel free to spread the word!!!

Thank you guys!!!! Love to all of you!!!

Rachel

  9. No! Way! My first ebook was My Blood Approves by Amanda Hocking! I had discovered the ebook section on goodreads that has free ebooks you can read(which is just hilarious to think about now since I NEVER use it) and I somehow ended up reading the book. I remember reading it and thinking it was SUPER cheesy and I wanted to stop reading it but I kept reading anyway. I think I was like halfway through the book when it stopped all of a sudden and told me I had to purchase the book to read the rest. I felt so stupid because I thought the whole book was free and that is why I chose to read it, but it turned out to be one of those books that turned up in the "free ebook" section but was only there in part and I was just the stupid person who didn't pay attention to anything. So anyway, I really didn't like the book, but I was so addicted to it that I just had to buy it so I could finish reading it and find out what happens. And that's the first time I ever read an ebook AND used amazon. The book was 2.99 on goodreads but I didn't want to pay that much and I read somewhere that the book was only .99 on amazon so... to amazon I went. I had to set up an account and everything because I had never used amazon before. And now, thanks to the book, I am in LOVE with amazon and have gotten the chance to buy so many great books and music.

  10. Well I unfortunately don't own my own ereader. I borrow my sisters Kindle everytime she downloads a new ebook. But the first book I managed to convince her to download for me was Crossroads by Mary Ting. I have always loved actual books, but the Kindle changed my life. I absolutely love to read on the Kindle (If I can wrestled her for it and win hahaha) Rachel, even if I don't win the Kindle Fire, the Star-Crossed Series you give away as a second prize, well heck even the signed copy of Reckless Magic is such an awesome prize. Any serious reader would be honored to have any of these...Thank you for running such an awesome give away.

  23. I have a kindle keyboard that I adore! I too was leery of purchasing one and put it off for WAY TOO long, just like you. Believe it or not, my first download was Reckless Magic (Sept. 21, 2011)! No, I am NOT kidding...I downloaded that and then 3 other classics that I've always wanted to read (Emma, Count of Monte Cristo, and Pride and Prejudice). I read the classics first because well, I was crazy and had NO clue how good the series was going to be. Before reading Reckless Magic I had ONLY downloaded free books (and I have a ton, trust me)but as soon as I read it I was HOOKED and the proceeded to purchase Hopeless and Fearless Magic books because I could not stop reading them!!! Waiting for Endless to be released almost killed me but was SO worth it.

I then proceeded to purchase and read all of her books. It was her books that showed me how amazing independently published books could be. With the exception of The Hunger Games, I have not purchased traditionally published books since. My first e reader is the Kindle Keyboard which I still have and love.

  31. The first book I ever downloaded onto my Kindle was The Unsuspecting Mage from The Morcyth Saga. The first ebook I ever purchased was Hopeless Magic.

Up until that point, I had never really felt the need to read anything I had to purchase because of the multitude of free books out there. However, on October 2, 2011, I downloaded Reckless Magic and finished it in two days. I spent the third day convincing myself not to spend the money, but I could not get Eden and Kiran out of my head! I was hooked and gave in to the purchase. I have since bought every single book you have released and I have never regretted any of them!! I mean this in a purely platonic, I love your writing type of way, but I love you!
